When this Siamese cat was spotted wondering the streets of Illinois, it was quite obvious she wasn’t a stray. Described as “very sweet,” with a clean coat and well mannered by the Good Samaritans that found her, the cat was taken at the Effingham County Animal Shelter.

“She’s very, very sweet and loves to be scratched on the head,” Michaela Muzzy, the woman that rescued her wrote in a Facebook post. More, the volunteers at the shelter were surprised to find a handwritten note tied to the cat’s pinky collar. The note, apparently written by a kid using a purple marker, was carrying an emotional message for the the cat’s new owner.

“Bye Violet. I think that name chose you,” the message (corrected for spelling) read. “I wish I could keep you. Bye Violet, I hope you get a good owner. To owner: Please take good care of her. By the way, I named her. Thank you! Love, Lacey.”

The letter left everyone at the shelter heartbroken, as they had no idea what happened. Anyway, a microchip would have offered them more clues, yet when they scanned her the result was negative. Therefore, no way to find Violet’s owners.

Speaking for THE DODO, Vanessa Skavlem – animal control officer at the shelter – said: “When we pulled it off and read it it just tugs at your heartstrings. I just envision some child loving this thing, and knowing that they can’t keep it.”

Even clueless about the cat’s previous owners, the shelter wasn’t discouraged at all in the attempt of finding a loving family and a forever home for Violet. So they took a photo of the sweet cat and shared it online, where lots of people have been so impressed about the touching story.

Among them Cindy Murray, who couldn’t hold her tears when read the note. The woman knew she had to visit the shelter right away, to meet this innocent cat. “I screenshotted the post and sent it to my husband and said, ‘I want to go get this cat. I love it — talk me out of it,’” the woman explained. “And he said, ‘You know I can’t do that. If you want it, go get it.’”

Sooner than later, Cindy was already at the shelter, holding Violet into her arms. She noticed the cat was feeling pretty uncomfortable there, so she decided to take her home straight away. Once she stepped inside her new home, Violet was more relaxed and acted like she was living there since forever.

The only thing that Cindy regrets is that she didn’t had the chance to meet the girl who wrote that note. But hope is not lost as the woman even shared a short footage in her attempt to reach her. “I thought about doing a little video to this girl saying, ‘Dear Lacey, I adopted your beautiful Violet. She’s going to have a wonderful life — full of treats, snuggles and everything we can give her,’” Cindy said.
