“He didn’t seem abandoned. He wore a ribbon around his neck and his fur was clean,” Jolie told The Dodo. “I pet him, waiting for his owner, but minutes passed and no one came.”
Jolie shared that she offered care and affection to the dog, attempting to comfort him, but his unwavering focus remained on the rhythmic ocean waves. Initially, believing he had been abandoned on the beach, Jolie and her family contemplated taking him in.
However, their intentions were altered when a man approached them, providing insight into the dog’s daily presence at the beach and the heartrending explanation behind it.
“His owner was a fisherman who passed away some time ago,” Jolie revealed on Twitter. “Since then, he gazes at the sea each day as a poignant tribute to his departed owner.”
The dog, whose name is Vaguito, seems to understand that his owner went out to sea one day and never came back. Maybe he understands his owner has died and is holding a vigil for him, or maybe he hopes one day his master will return.
Jolie expressed, “[He] becomes elated every time he spots boats.”
She shared with The Dodo that the dog’s narrative deeply touched her. Although Vaguito’s story is a melancholy one, she found solace in the knowledge that he wasn’t alone. “Practically everyone in the vicinity is acquainted with the dog and holds a deep affection for him,” she discovered.
The close-knit community members take responsibility for Vaguito’s well-being, providing him with nourishment and shelter. A compassionate woman in the vicinity, according to a veterinarian, is dedicated to looking after him.
