After a lifetime in cages, an old rescue lion still has the power to be affectionate. The fondness he shows to a tiny little squirrels comes as a surprise even for his caretakers. But after all, animal kingdom never cease to amaze, when it comes to unlikely friendships
Unfortunately, Guero the lion had a very though past. The massive wild cat spent his entire life in a private zoo in Mexico. He was forced to live his days in tiny cages all alone. An incredibly difficult life that affected him both mentally and physically. Thankfully a local animal welfare organization found him just in time. Shortly after rescued him, these volunteers asked for help at the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado. The big-hearted people there were more than happy to help, so Guero was brought to the United States where he got the medical care he needed.
Then, the rescue lion was moved to a sanctuary where he finally got the chance to a peacefully life. He adapted very fast into his new home and apparently he’s already making new friends here.
Even his sad past left wounds deeply into his soul, the gentle giant still has the power to shower love all around him. Recently, Guero surprised his caretakers with the kindness he showed to a tiny creature that visited his enclosure. The massive lion was captured on camera sharing a heartwarming moment with a squirrel. Besides that, Guero was more than happy to even share his food with the tiny visitors. A lovely friendship is about to be born!
“Turns out Güero and the 13 striped Ground Squirrel are buddies and Güero is purrrrfectly fine with the little guy sharing his food,” the sanctuary wrote on Facebook. “Every day Güero loves to get a little whipping cream after he finishes his meat, and the squirrel has decided he likes the whipping cream just as much! It’s been a scene we see repeated more and more often. They share such a ‘sweet’ bond.”
