A stray mother dog decided to risk everything to make sure her little ones are safe. With the temperatures dropping below zero and heavy snows, she feared for the lives of her babies, so Hera put all her trust in some strangers, hoping they’re kind and they’ll help her and her puppies. Fortunately, Hera’s story has a happy ending!

Without a shelter over her head, Hera gave birth to a litter of three puppies, in a drainage pipe, outside a village in Serbia. Things weren’t great, but at least they had protection against the wind, and the devoted mother usually found scratches nearby to feed herself. But within weeks, the winter took over, making it impossible for Hera and her babies to live there anymore. Unfortunately, she had no other choice, though.

When everything seemed to be lost for the tiny puppies and their mother, the odds turned into their favor. After a concerned citizen called him to let him know about Hera’s situation, Milan from Dog Rescue Shelter Mladenovac, rushed to save them.

Surprisingly, Hera was happier than ever when she spotted Milan, and she even run out the pipe to greet him and let him know about her helpless babies. About 4-week-old, the puppies were looking in a very good shape, but rescuing them proved far more difficult than anyone expected.

Even with their mom at the end of the pipe to assure them that everything’s all right, the puppies have never been next to a human before, and that made them impossible to reach. But Milan didn’t drove all the way there, only to give up on them. He spent hours in the freezing cold trying to get them out, and he eventually succeeded thanks to a broom.

After rescuing them, Milan grabbed the three puppies into his arms and reunited them with their mom who was concerningly waiting inside the VAN. Now, Hera and her babies are all safe and warm at the shelter, thanks to the kindness of some strangers and her bravery!
