Meet Beaux Tox, a Labrador Retriever who entered the world with a distinctive appearance due to being cramped in his mother’s womb with five other siblings. As a result, he was pushed to the side and developed a facial deformity. Despite this initial setback, Beaux’s vivacious personality and sharp intellect remained unaltered. Nevertheless, his life was marked by constant rejection and neglect until he met Jamie Hulit, who became his kindred spirit and truest companion.
Beaux’s life took a bleak turn when he was left in the care of a man who callously neglected him, leaving him to fend for himself outdoors for a harrowing five years. Despite attempts by local rescue groups to intervene on his behalf, Beaux remained trapped in a state of abject misery and despair, plagued by illness, disease, and parasites.
However, fate intervened in the form of Beaux’s guardian angel – Jamie. Despite Beaux’s wretched state, Jamie was unwavering in her determination to offer him a second chance at life. She was resolute in ensuring that Beaux would not be returned to the foster system, instead providing him with a stable home and a sense of belonging.
Jamie’s empathy towards Beaux stemmed from her own experiences of being placed in foster care during her childhood, where she experienced the anguish of false hope and rejection from being passed between families.
“Because of his facial deformity, the people who were breeding couldn’t sell him,” Jamie told THE DODO. “So they gave him away for free. A friend of mine posted a picture of Beaux on Facebook saying he needed a foster or to be adopted — anything… I sent him a message saying, ‘I would love to take that dog in and give him a home.’”
Dr. Jay Rydberg, a compassionate and valiant veterinarian, provided intensive treatment to Beaux, investing just as much time and emotional energy into nursing him back to health as Jamie did. Together, they worked tirelessly to help Beaux overcome his chronic heartworm condition, which had nearly claimed his life. After receiving a clean bill of health, Jamie was able to take Beaux home with her.
Now, Beaux is an integral part of a joyful family, serving as a beloved little brother to another retriever named Riley. The pair have formed an unbreakable bond, despite their age difference (Beaux is 6 years old and Riley is 13). Beaux’s youthful spirit and exuberance help keep Riley feeling young, and the two are inseparable.
Despite his difficult past, Beaux exudes an unbridled joy and innocence that is reminiscent of a young pup. He has found his forever home and couldn’t be happier with his new family. “He’s bursting with life,” Jamie shared. “And he has brought so much happiness into our lives.”
