While on his daily route, animal rescuer Takis Proestakis came across a beautiful puppy who had been abandoned at a landfill on the island of Crete in Greece.
Finding dogs at the landfill was a common occurrence for Takis, and it was actually his rescue of a previously abandoned dog that led him to create Takis Shelter. As he was already on his way to the shelter, Takis decided to bring the puppy, whom he named Samu, along with him. Despite being treated like garbage and discarded at the landfill, Samu now has a bright future ahead of him thanks to Takis’ rescue efforts.
As Takis gets out of his car with his dog Zoe, he spots the puppy, whose white fur almost blends in with the mattress he is hiding behind. In the rescue video, Takis can be heard saying, “Here we are again.” He hopes that Zoe will be able to lure the puppy out of hiding, and his plan succeeds.
As soon as Takis safely retrieves the puppy, he can’t help but admire the little animal. “Look at this beautiful face,” he says, noting that the puppy still has a blue collar on. Takis takes Samu back to his shelter, which is located on a mountainside amidst an olive grove and currently houses 300 dogs.
Initially shy, Samu quickly becomes comfortable around the other animals and starts playing with the other dogs at the shelter. It doesn’t take long for a foreign visitor, who fosters dogs for Takis in her home in Finland, to take notice of Samu. The puppy is soon on his way to Finland, where he befriends two other dogs who were also rescued from Takis Shelter. With a loving foster family and new canine companions, Samu is well on his way to living a happy and fulfilling life.
