A sweet pittie got a second chance, after her owners decided to gave up on her. She was tied to a tree in the middle of a park in Brooklyn, with a note next to her. Thankfully, a kindhearted man spotted the dog just in time and rescued her!

Eric Maus, a 28-year-old guy from Prospect Lefferts Gardens, was walking two dogs he’s been taking care of, through the park, when came noticed Mamas – a 7-year-old pit bull, chained up to a tree. Eric initially looked for the dog’s owners, but there was no sign of anyone. When he got closer, he was surprised to see a note hanged from the tree. The dog was just as friendly and sweet as massive she was, so Eric immediately approached her.

“I was walking Gouda and Lily through the park, when I saw this really big, chubby pit bull tied to the tree,” Eric explained for The Dodo. “I looked around and I called out to her, ‘Hey, where’s your owner?’ She was being so sweet and so gentle. She was just laying there, tongue out, so cute.”

From the note he found next to the dog, Eric learned her name was Mamas and she was 7-year-old, followed by the message: “Take me home. I’m a great dog. Don’t let my size scare you. I’m sweet.” It is when Eric realized he cam across an abandoned dog and he had to do something, but he had no idea from where to start. Nonetheless, he was decided to help Mamas.

Inspired, Eric grabbed a couple of photos of the dog and shared them with his neighbors on a Facebook group. Thankfully, within minutes, one of them rushed to help Eric. So they have taken Mamas to Sean Casey Animal Rescue – a shelter in Windsor Terrace.

“I didn’t know what to do, but I wanted to help her,” the kind young man said. “A dog shouldn’t be alone in the park like that, especially tied up with a metal chain. I felt I needed to do something.”

Though dehydrated, Mamas looked so happy when she arrived at the rescue center. She just felt she was in good hands, and the most important, she was so relieved to be out of that park. Once she’ll pass all the medical tests, Mamas will be ready to get adopted. Eric, the man who saved her, hopes she’ll find a loving family, just as she is.

[She’s] a total sweetheart, with big brown doe-y eyes,” he said. “She’s just a happy dog.”
