When it comes down to comforting those in need, a dog’s heart is always gentle. Whether other pups, human beings or animals of different species, the men’s best friend has proved, so many times, it can easily be called everyone’s best buddy. So Sarge – a 9-year-old German Shepherd could haven’t been any different

The kind doggy shows a great compassion for orphaned fawns. The dog’s owner – Cheryl Stephen is such a big-hearted woman, always willing to help. Therefore lots of orphaned animals have been adopted by her over the years, including some adorable fawns. Even Sarge was very friendly with all the animals her mom has been fostering, he never showed so much compassion as he did whit Buckwheat.

Buckwheat was the first fawn Cheryl adopted and since the moment Sarge met her, his guardian instincts kicked in. “Something clicked in Sarge and he took to Buckwheat instantly,” Cheryl told The Dodo. “He wanted to be involved with every aspect of Buckwheat’s care. He took on the role of being Buckwheat’s guardian.”

The kind dog started to act just like an “adoptive mom” for the tiny creature. He fallowed her everywhere, just to make sure nothing happens to her. “Buckwheat grew and began venturing out on his own a little more, we would have Sarge go find him and bring him back home,” Cheryl said.

The once so helpless, Buckwheat grew into a strong fawn, so Cheryl knew there’s time for her to be release in the wild. That made Sarge very sad and his mom feared he would never be so kind with other animals as he was with Buckwheat. But the selfless dog hurried to prove her wrong.

As Cheryl brought more orphaned fawns to help them rehabilitate, Sarge instantly shows his intentions. He’s in a hurry to baby-sit these lovely creatures. “When I walk in the door carrying a fawn, Sarge springs into action,” the woman said. “He wants to check them over and he will frantically sniff and nose around to determine their condition. The fawns are drawn to Sarge and feel safe in his presence.”
