We’ve seen some unlikely friendships among animals. And exactly when you might think there’s nothing to impress you anymore, the animal kingdom amaze us once again. This time a jaguar and a Jack Russel terrier are making the headlines with their unusual friendship. And I have to admit it was quite a shock seeing these two together.

Meet Jag, the jaguar, and Bullet the dog and their adorable love story. Jag first came to South Africa as a cub. The Akwaaba Lodge, an animal sanctuary, took him in. Immediately, he and his human owner bonded. They loved each other and even slept together. The jaguar just wanted to be around his newly adopted mom. But this couldn’t last forever as Jag was getting larger. So they needed to find a solution.

And the perfect solution was found in Bullet, the terrier. She felt it right as the two became immediately best friends. They would play together, eat together, and even sleep together. It was clearly a match made in heaven.

However, she also knew this couldn’t last forever as well. Jag kept getting bigger and was finally maturing into an adult. That meant that he could no longer wander around where he was used to being. But after all, he was about to have enough space to roam around.

The day came for Jag the jaguar to move into his new enclosure, and, unfortunately Bullet wasn’t on the list. As jaguars aren’t domesticated all were afraid Bullet might get hurt.

But, separating these two guys turned out to be a really bad idea. Jag spent his first day into his new enclosure crying, while Bullet refused to leave the door of the enclosure. He just wait there hoping to find a way to get back near his friend, again.

So, in the end, their mom realized they loved each other to much and they can’t live separated. Therefore, they let Bullet get back into the enclosure with Jag and they never looked happier.

Though Jag has gotten much bigger and stronger, the two remain the best of buds. And ironically, Jag isn’t even the dominant one of the pair – Bullet is. While Jag may be stronger, he takes his cues from Bullet.

Their affection for each other can help us better understand animals and their relationships with each other. While it might seem like two such different species could never get along, that’s clearly just not the case. We should all keep that in mind as we interact with the animals in our lives and remind ourselves that they’re not much different than us.
