This is the incredible moment, a whale is rushing to help a diver in need. The enormous marine mammal seems to protect a human being from a shark attack!
When whale biologist Nan Hauser, 63, decided to go snorkeling in the ocean, she hoped to get a glimpse into the amazing ocean life she’s been studying for most of her life. But she ended up getting a lot more than she signed up for after an unexpected encounter with a massive whale that left her with memories that she will never forget
Soon after she got into the water, Hauser spotted something really huge coming on her way. While she quickly realized what the gigantic creature may be, it was impossible to guess its intentions. Therefore, all she could do was to patiently wait, even if her heart beat out of her chest. But, believe it or not, the massive whale actually protected the woman from a nearby shark by pushing her away from the area where the fierce predator was at.
It’s pretty unlikely, the massive 25-ton whale did it on purpose, but since it saved the woman’s life, it is less important if the marine creature intended to do it or not. Nevertheless Nan knew better than anyone to keep calm in situations like this, but after she got back on the surface and let her team know that there was a tiger shark just a few feet away, you could hear the fear in her voice.
However, what’s most impressive about the footage is the fact that the whale was instinctively compelled to protect the biologist and alert her of the danger. Although Nan knows a great deal about these mammals, she later stated that she didn’t expect a whale to act so maternal towards a human up until this experience.
“I’ve spent 28 years underwater with whales, and have never had a whale so tactile and so insistent on putting me on his head, or belly, or back, or, most of all, trying to tuck me under his huge pectoral fin,” Hauser, told the Daily Mirror. “If he rammed me too hard, or hit me with his flippers or tail, that would break my bones and rupture my organs. If he held me under his pectoral fin, I would have drowned … I was sure that it was most likely going to be a deadly encounter.”
