Great Dane gives birth to one of the biggest puppy litters ever

Dog lovers were left astonished after a Great Dane named Namine gave birth to an enormous litter of 21 puppies following a 27-hour labor. Tanya Dubbs, Namine’s owner from Pocahontas, Virginia, was taken aback by the impressive feat of her two-year-old canine. While Tanya had anticipated that her large pooch would produce “13 or 14” pups, she was not prepared for the arrival of almost two dozen. It took Namine more than a day to complete the delivery of all 21 offspring, but unfortunately, two of them did not survive beyond their birth.

“We got up to 16 and then she had another one,” the owner told WVVA. “I was sitting on the bed and she was on the bed with me and I was talking to a friend of mine and I heard a gush of fluid and I looked over and I said we have another puppy.”

The Great Dane’s owner anticipated that her dog would have several puppies, but was taken aback by the final count of 21. Tanya initially believed that Namine would give birth to “13 or 14” pups, but her expectations were surpassed when the dog delivered 16 offspring. Tanya realized that Namine was not finished giving birth when she brought another puppy into the world while they were both on the bed. “I was talking to a friend of mine when I heard a gush of fluid, and I saw another puppy,” Tanya recounted to the outlet.

As per the American Kennel Club, Great Danes are recognized as one of the biggest dog breeds, usually weighing between 99 to 200 pounds and standing at two to three feet tall. The litter size of dogs varies from one to 12 pups, with larger breeds having a higher count. In 2004, Tia, a Neapolitan Mastiff, gave birth to 24 puppies, earning her the Guinness World Record for the most significant litter.
